Reproductive Psychiatry

Reproductive psychiatry is one of Dr. Sheehan's primary passions. Dr. Sheehan obtained advanced training in perinatal psychiatry at the University of North Carolina. Together with the Center for Women's Mood Disorders, she has worked with perinatal patients both in the inpatient and outpatient settings. She collaborates with lactation consultants and has experience in breastfeeding medicine. She also has specialized training and interest in fertility preservation in oncology, as well as sexual health and intimacy struggles related to cancer and other medical conditions.

We see patients who struggle with infertility, medically complicated pregnancies, difficulties related to fertility treatments, multiple losses, fetal abnormalities, mood swings related to hormonal cycles and aging, and a wide variety of psychiatric concerns related to reproductive health.

We will work closely with your obstetrical team to ensure optimal psychiatric treatment throughout your reproductive journey. You are not alone.

"As a mother of two and a physician, finding balance is a daily challenge. Every family is unique, and every mother faces challenges alone. The idea of having a village is wonderful, but it is almost impossible in today's world. It is my honor and passion to extend my hand to mothers around me, lift them up, and reduce their struggles. No matter how difficult your current situation may be, or how severe your symptoms are when we meet, help is possible. Trust that if you find yourself here, you are meant to be here, and you have the strength in you to take the first step and call." -Dr. Sheehan

Sometimes things happen in life that are not part of the plan.

When that happens, don't give up on your dreams,

just find another way to reach them.
